Welcome to  Part 1 of How To Succeed in Network Marketing Part Time.  This post will focus on your most valuable resource:

TIME

If you're going to start a Part Time Network Marketing home business, you're going to have to make every second count.  If  you're already trying to build your Network Marketing business part time, you already understand the value (and lack) of time.  It is by far your most important resource.

What Path Will YOU Follow?

If you're like me, you work full-time at a job that you're quite ready to give up if only you could make your business fly.  You come home dead tired, eat some dinner and look forward to a night of relaxation.  For me, that used to mean laying on the couch and watching TV while eating chips or whatever junk food I could get my hands on.

I'm here to tell you that this is a dead end street! All it got me was a feeling of despair and helplessness, convinced I was destined to live out my days working 60-70 hour weeks until I retire, too tired to do anything else.  Oh yeah, vegging out on the couch and eating junk food  also gained me about 50 pounds!

network marketing part timeMy wife Rosemary and I were at  a fork in the road in how we wanted to live the rest of our lives.

We decided on a different path, one of becoming an entrepreneur with a highly profitable business and becoming the true masters of our lives.

We did our research, found the right company and started on our path to freedom.

It's a tough path, no doubt.  Nothing worthwhile is ever easy.

We are still a work in progress, but I can tell you that, without a doubt… it's SO worth it!

If we can do it, so can you.

(oh, and by the way this path we're on is also healthier – between the two of us, we lost a combined112 lbs and have never felt better!)

Okay, back to our topic at hand.

Time Management of Self-Management?

Here's the thing about time — it doesn't change.

We each have 24 hours in a day to spend as we please.

For the Part Time Networker, time is of the essence.  Here's why…

If we assume that you work 8 hours per day (at least) and sleep an average of 8 hours each night, this leaves a maximum of 8 waking hours at our disposal.  Factor in preparation and eating of meals, taking care of family and child issues, running errands and other life issues, you are going to be lucky to have 3-4 hours to work on your business each night of the week.

If you're lucky.

On weekends you may have a little more, but keep in mind that this is also the most demanding family time.  You never have as much time as you think.

So how can you manage your limited time?  You CAN'T!

3 hours is 3 hours, no matter how you slice it.

What you can manage is….. YOU!

Spend your time wisely!

How YOU use those few hours each day will be the difference between success and failure in your Part Time Network Marketing business.

The 9 Most Important Ways to Spend Your Time as a Part Time Networker

1.   Feed your mind

Making the mind shift from employee to entrepreneur can be particularly difficult.  It's simply a different way of approaching life.

Rarely does a day go by where I am not reading or listening to Personal Development of some sort.  My favorite Personal Development authors include Jim Rohn, Anthony Robbins, and Zig Ziglar.

To leverage your time most wisely, always carry a book or mp3 player with you when you do errands or travel around.  You never know when you'll be stuck on a line at the supermarket or waiting in the doctor's office.  Similarly, load your car CD player with some great Personal Development CDs and listen to them while you commute to work.  This is great way to leverage  time that would otherwise have been wasted.

2.   Find a mentor

Finding a personal mentor is one of the best ways to cut down your learning curve to success.  They can help you navigate the confusing times you'll undoubtedly encounter when growing your business, particularly when first starting out.

Be sure to read How to Choose the Best Network Marketing Mentor.

3.  Find your niche and study them

One of the biggest mistakes I see Network Marketing newbies make is trying to market their opportunity to everyone.  In reality, you need to narrow your prospect pool (“your niche”), those people who you can help the most and whom you will attract.  Learning how to attract your niche is time well spent.

4.  Master one Direct Response Marketing skill

Time to get down to reality.  Without leads, your business will fail to exist.  While you can eventually generate free leads using Social Media, it's highly likely that you will need to use at least some paid advertising method to  jump start your business.  Placing ads on targeted internet sites, running Pay-per-Click ads and mailing postcards are all examples of direct response marketing.  My advice is to learn and implement one of these skills as soon as possible.

5.  Pick one Social Media site and dive in

While you're getting leads using a Direct Response method mentioned above, it's also time to start building your brand online.

Why?

Because ultimately, people want to join YOU, not your company.

You'll want to start building relationships by participating on social sites like Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.  Let people know who you are and what you stand for.  Start building a reputation as someone willing to help, and you'll be well on your way to building your brand.

6.  Pick up the phone

This is the #1 money skill in Network Marketing.  Reaching out and speaking to your leads will help them see that you are very serious about your business.  Very few business deals are ever closed without a conversation of some sort.

If you feel intimidated by what to say on the phone, all I can tell you is “Get Over It”!  Practice and preparation are the keys to sharpening your phone skills.  The better you are on the phone, the more money you will likely make.

7.  Attend a live event

Why do you always hear people tell newbies to “get to a live event” as soon as possible?

Because it's at these events that you first see that there ARE people out there making the kind of money that you want to make.  You will be surrounded by people with similar goals and beliefs, and you'll begin to form face-to-face relationships that can later prove very fruitful.  I always recommend to my team members to get to at least one live event each year, more if possible.

It was at our very first live event (less than 2 months after we started our business) that we met one of our most influential mentors.

8.   Start a blog

Having a blog that serves as “your internet hub” is a very common form of personal branding.  It has been one of the primary ways I've been able to gain notoriety as an expert.  The funny thing is you needn't be an expert to blog successfully.  You simply need to learn new things and share them with your readers.  That's it.

It's also free to start a blog, making it very attractive to those building their Network Marketing Part Time Business “on a budget.”

For more information, read “10 Reasons Why You Should Own a Hub Blog.”

9.  Reflect on your accomplishments

It's always best to take some time each week (or more frequently) to reflect on your accomplishments.  Give yourself a “pat on the back” for moving forward, learning new things, and getting out there and taking steps to grow your business.

Be sure to remind yourself that building a Network Marketing business Part Time is a process that takes time.  Use your time wisely and you will move consistently forward towards your goals.

Don't get discouraged!

Okay, so you may be thinking that you don't have the time to do all 9 things on this list!

And you'd be right.

The important thing is to spend your time WISELY, moving forward each day using the above list as a guide.

Don't get sucked into typical “time-gulpers”.

It's so easy to get sidetracked by reading emails, spending hours on Facebook, or reviewing training after training without taking action….  thinking you're moving forward in your business.

In reality, your 2 hours allotted to spend on your business that night are gone and you have NOTHING to show for it!

In building your Network Marketing business Part Time, TIME is your most precious resource!

Be smart with how you use it!

I know it’s been a while since this was posted but Instagram is definitely becoming one of the hottest social media sites to help with network marketing especially to the younger demographic…I guess it just depends on who you are marketing to as well of course.

I agree, Time management is the best way to handle your time base in my experience. I work full time in a company at morning then at night I am a part time net worker. Every minute is valuable to me. I never go out on weekends because I really value the time so much I need to take care of my family and i have a little time for myself. So I made a daily planner to manage everything smoothly.

Sounds like a good system, Dave. If it works for you, then go with it.

      Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for laying out these great time management tips for people (like me!) who want to make a little extra money through marketing on the side but don’t have the discipline to lay out such a list. Reading this made me realize how much time I really do waste and now I am going to make the conscious effort to do less of the things that keep me from reaching my potential.

        Hey Melanie,

Glad you found this information useful in your world. It’s true — we all waste a lot of time doing things that don’t help us move forward. When you start taking charge of your time, great things can happen!

        Thanks for the comment, Melanie!

Thank you, Dr.Bob – that is very good advice. I will be sure to send people here for good training on the basics. It’s very true that time management is one of the most important skills to master in running your own business. I have found that once I figure out what needs to be done in the time I have, a useful tool is google calendars and task list, especially the phone apps. This keeps the tasks to be done in view all the time.

      Hi,

This post really struck a chord with me because time management is something I’ve really struggled with since I got involved with network marketing. Like a lot of people I work a full time job so realistically I have about 4hrs a day to work on my business. I find that allocating specific time slots for certain tasks (e.g. 5.30pm to 7.00pm working on my blog, 9.00pm to 10.00pm calling leads etc) helps me to get things done and feel some sense of acomplishment each day.

I believe that desire, focus and consistency are the three elements to consider for anyone who is striving to become a successful entrepreneur so I would say to anyone who is on this path to never give up and keep on doing what your doing and eventually you’ll reach your goal.

Many thanks for a great post,

      All the best,

      Robert Kendray

Hey Robert… that’s a great strategy to get things done! Sounds like you’ve really worked at conquering this challenge!

I agree that desire, focus and consistency are essential components to succeeding at just about anything, including MLM and Network Marketing. I would add one more — DISCIPLINE. You must be disciplined and willing to give up things in the short term to realize your success in the long term.

Great to see you here! I look forward to seeing you again!

Thanks, Mavis! Part Time Networkers certainly do face unique challenges to building their business, but they can and must push through them if they want to achieve their ultimate goals. Our job is to show them how!

Thanks for stopping by. Great to see you here!

      Hey Dr Clarke,

I couldn’t agree with you more.

Time management is something that a lot of network marketers struggle with – being overwhelmed because there’s so much information to take in, so much to learn especially when you’re starting a new business. You want to do it all and have it all right now!

It’s even more challenging if you’re working full-time, as you mentioned. It’s really hard to figure out how to balance it all – how to work your business around your job, your family and all your other commitments.

These are excellent strategies you’re sharing here and will definitely help part-time marketers to stay on track.

      Thanks,
      Mavis
