I’m a big believer in knowing your numbers.
Health is the easiest example.
A few months ago, my bloodwork wasn’t where I wanted it. So I cleaned up my diet, cut way back on sugar, got more consistent with movement, and started making better choices more days than not.
And sure… I felt better.
But I didn’t really know if my strategy was working until I got my blood results back.
And yep — the strategy is working.
That’s when it hit me (again): numbers tell the truth. Not opinions. Not vibes. The numbers. Business is no different. If you don’t know the business metrics to track for a small business, you can stay busy for months and still feel like you’re starting over every Monday.
So let’s fix that.
Because if you’re building a home business—network marketing, affiliate marketing, coaching, content, any of it—your growth doesn’t have to be a mystery. You just need a simple scoreboard.
And I’m going to make this ridiculously practical.
Why Most People Stay Stuck (Even When They’re Working Hard)
Most people don’t lack motivation.
They lack a scoreboard.
When you don’t know what to measure, you end up measuring the easy stuff:
-
Likes
-
Comments
-
Views
-
Followers
-
“I posted today”
-
“I stayed busy”
None of those are bad… but they’re not the scoreboard.
They’re like judging your health based on how your jeans fit instead of A1C, glucose, triglycerides, and cholesterol.
So what is the scoreboard?
If you want small business metrics to track that actually lead to growth, there are three that will tell you almost everything you need to know.
3 Business Metrics to Track For Your Small Business
1. New Leads Per Week
Question: How many new people entered your world this week?
This can include:
-
New email subscribers
-
New opt-ins for a guide or training
-
New followers who actually raised their hand
-
New warm conversations that started with real interest
No matter what business model you’re in, this is foundational.
Because no new leads = no growth.
This is the “business blood flow” metric.
And if this number is low, don’t jump straight to “I need a better product” or “I need a new funnel.”
Most of the time, it’s simpler:
You need more consistent visibility and more entry points into your world.
This is where lead generation metrics matter—because they help you see whether people are actually finding you, clicking, opting in, and raising their hand.
Quick gut-check: If you had to answer today… do you know your new leads per week number?
2. Offers Made Per Week
This is the number most people avoid… and it’s the number that creates momentum fastest.
Question: How many times did I invite someone to take a next step this week?
Let’s clear something up:
An offer doesn’t have to mean “buy my thing right now.”
An offer can be:
-
“Grab my free guide”
-
“Watch this quick training”
-
“Reply and tell me what you’re working on”
-
“Want the link?”
-
“Here’s what I recommend”
-
“Want to join me?”
If it invites someone into your world, it counts.
Here’s what I’ve seen over and over:
Most people don’t fail because their offer is terrible.
They fail because they don’t make enough offers consistently.
And without consistent offers, two things happen:
-
Your lead growth slows down.
-
Your revenue becomes random.
If you want to get slightly more “tactical” here, you can think of this number as part of your content marketing KPIs—because your content should naturally lead to a next step (even if that step is small).
Quick gut-check: Are you making offers weekly… or only when you “feel ready”?
3. Revenue Per Week
Now for the truth-teller.
Question: What did the business produce this week?
Not likes. Not “engagement.” Not “I posted three times.”
Money.
Weekly revenue is one of the key business metrics because it forces clarity.
It tells you:
-
what’s working
-
what’s not
-
where you’re leaking sales
-
whether your efforts are converting into results
And I like weekly tracking because it gives you fast feedback.
Monthly tracking can turn into: “I’ll deal with it later.”
Weekly tracking turns into: “Let’s adjust now.”
The Simple Diagnostic That Makes These Numbers Powerful
Here’s how these three metrics work together like a quick checkup:
-
Low leads? You likely have a visibility/traffic problem.
-
Good leads but low offers? You likely have a consistency/avoidance problem. (Not laziness. Usually clarity, confidence, or a plan issue.)
-
Good leads + consistent offers but low revenue? You likely have a message/offer/funnel problem.
-
All three rising? Congrats — now you scale what’s working.
That’s the whole game.
“But Bob… What About All the Other Metrics?”
Yes, there are a lot of other numbers you can track:
-
email open rates and click rates
-
opt-in conversion rates
-
earnings per click (affiliate)
-
customer retention
-
active team builders (network marketing)
Those matter too—especially as you grow.
But if you’re a part-time entrepreneur (like most of my audience), you don’t need 37 things to measure.
You need a simple scoreboard you’ll actually use.
Leads.
Offers.
Revenue.
Everything else supports those.
Want Help Getting These Numbers Moving?
This brings me to something I’m opening up again.
I’m reopening my coaching program for a select few.
As someone who is semi-retired, I don’t carry a full coaching schedule anymore… but I do make room for a few clients each month who are serious about building a real business—without drowning in overwhelm, shiny objects, and busy work.
This is the kind of work we do together:
-
simplify your business plan
-
build consistent lead flow
-
create a natural “offer rhythm” that doesn’t feel salesy
-
tighten your message so the right people respond
-
focus on the few actions that actually move revenue
And just so you know what that can look like, here’s a note from one of my clients:
When I first connected with Bob just over a year ago, I was starting from scratch-no website, barely a mailing list, and uncertainty about how to position my consulting services in a crowded marketplace. Bob didn't just give me tactics; he helped me think strategically about what makes my offering unique and who truly needs what I provide.
The results speak for themselves. I now have a highly engaged mailing list filled with people who actually open my emails and respond to the content I share. More importantly, I hit my revenue goals this year-something that felt like a distant dream when we first started working together.
What I appreciate most about Bob is his ability to cut through the noise and help me focus on what actually makes a difference. He's not about chasing every new marketing trend; he's about building a solid foundation that creates sustainable growth.
If you're looking for an internet marketer who combines strategic thinking with practical execution, I highly recommend Bob Clarke. He's been instrumental in taking my business from zero to thriving.

If you’d like to be considered…
Comment and tell me:
-
Which business model are you focused on right now? (affiliate, network marketing, coaching, etc.)
-
What’s your biggest roadblock at the moment?
-
What would you love your weekly revenue to be by the end of this year?
I’ll reply personally and let you know if it’s a fit.
Quick Challenge Before You Go
If you want to make this practical today, do this:
Write these three lines in your notes app:
-
New leads this week: ___
