Approximately 95% to 99.9% of people who try to make money online fail miserably and give up. It’s not because they didn’t have enough time to devote to their online businesses, or that they didn’t have enough money to invest, or that they didn’t have the proper mentors, or because there is a conspiracy to keep the average newbie stupid. No, the reason why the overwhelming majority of people fail to become successful Internet marketers is simply because of their mindset.
There are plenty of ways to make money online, from selling affiliate products and doing pay-per-click advertising to being a service provider and blogging. However, engaging in any one of these activities or others does not make you a true Internet marketer, nor does it mean that you have a business. Businesses have business plans, assets, and a foundation. If you don’t treat Internet marketing as a business, your online career will not progress.
If you’ve ever watched the documentary The Secret, you’ll know that the secret to attracting success, wealth, and anything else that you desire is to want it badly enough. If you want something badly enough, then your life will change its course in order to acquire whatever it is you want. It takes patience, dedication, perseverance, open-mindedness, and intelligence to make good money online.
At this point, many people will make excuses for themselves. Some will underestimate themselves and think that they won’t be able to achieve such a goal or that they’re not smart enough. Some people will say that their lives are too hectic for them to learn Internet marketing while others will put in some time but quit because it seems too difficult.
Making money online isn’t hard, but it isn’t a cakewalk either – you won’t get rich within a few weeks. In fact, some people have been online for years and still haven’t had the breakthrough that they’ve been waiting for. Put aside all your fears, your excuses, and any preconceptions you have about Internet and Network Marketing, and mentally start over. Start over to the point where the only opinions that matter are yours and anybody else who wants to help you achieve your goals.
One of my favorite quotes is “Mindset before Skill Set”. This means that, no matter how much you learn or what skills you master you will not break through in your business and see the results you covet until your mindset is where it needs to be. How much work you need to do in this area depends on where your mindset is initially. Most people looking to start their own home business have never done so before, and still have the typical 9-5, trading time for dollars mentality. The inner switch to an entrepreneurial way of thinking can be difficult and it starts with basically deprogramming the old tapes playing in your mind to the new ways of thinking like an entrepreneur. How do you make this switch? Reading books on entrepreneurial mindset, masterminding with other entrepreneurs, attending live events, and basically flooding your mind with this new way of thinking.
It takes time, but the payoffs are amazing, and crucial to your ultimate success in Network Marketing.
